Betty Mae Szott

Betty Mae Szott, 77, of Aurora, IL died on November 27, 2021. She was born on July 6, 1944, at St. Mary’s Hospital in LaSalle, Il to the late Edward and Frances, nee Budziak, Szott. She was a 1962 graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School, having earned the Latin Award and was the first college graduate in her immediate family graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Illinois State University and later a master’s degree from St. Xavier University in Chicago.

Betty was a long-time math and head of the computer science teacher for the Winnebago County IL school system for 28 years before a career in commercial insurance with Zurich North America in Schaumburg, IL retiring in 2014.
She was a devout catholic all her life, volunteering for charities and teaching religious education for children. As an avid sports woman she enjoyed bowling, golf, racquet sports and outdoor adventures with her grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Betty, having never played volleyball taught herself the fundamentals of the game and coached several undefeated champion volleyball teams for the Winnebago public schools.
She is survived by her sister Joyce Jaraczewski of Argyle, TX, five nieces and nephews James J Jaraczewski (Faye) of Argyle, TX, Joseph F Jaraczewski (Jayne) of Crawford TX, John D Jaraczewski (Wanda) of Mauldin, SC, Joy S Jaraczewski of Atlanta GA, and Jaclyn Irving (G. Campbell) of Woodstock, GA; 18 grand-nieces and grand-nephews and 2 great grand-nieces and nephews
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday December 4, 2021, at 11:00 AM at St. Valentine Catholic Church in Peru, IL with Father Gary Blake officiating. For those Catholics desiring communion there is confession scheduled at St. Valentine’s Church Saturday morning at 8:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Valentine’s Cemetery, Spring Valley, IL. Visitation will be Saturday morning December 4, 2021, t St. Valentine’s Church from 9:00 – 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial may be made to St. Valentine’s Church or Our Lady of Mercy Church 701 Eola Rd, Aurora, IL 60504
