Florence Meyer 89 of Peru. Died November 17,2019 in Heritage Health of Peru surrounded by the love of Family.
Services will 10:30 AM Wednesday November 20,2019 in the Ptak Funeral Home with a 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St Mary Church with Monsignor Richard Soseman officiating. Burial will be in St Valentine Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 9:00-10:30 AM in the funeral home.
Florence was born to Antone and Margaret (Dombrowski) Nieslawski in 1930. She married James Meyer on January 15,1955 in St Valentine Church. It took James 15 years to teach her to fish and the two fishing buddies spent 49 years in Wisconsin and Flo out fished him a few times. Florence was known to say she was the best catch Jim ever had.
A member of St Mary’s Parish, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Underseller Resale Shop. A volunteer at IVCH, she was also a longtime member of the IVCH Auxiliary and worked and ran the IVCH Lobby Gift Shop for over 4 decades.
Florence retired from the city of Peru after 42 years, Known as the crossing guard lady. She proudly wore a button saying “Have you hugged your kid today, if you don’t I will. In the winter no child went past her without mittens, hats or scarves as she kept a box filled in her truck so no child would be cold.
Florence is survived by her husband James of Peru, 3 children Dale Meyer of Belvidere, David (Lee Ann) Meyer of Spring Valley and Mary Ellen Meyer of Granville. 10 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren, 18 nieces and nephews. 2 sisters in laws Eleanor Nieslawski and Barbara Nieslawski and 1 Brother in law Charles Wright.
She was preceded in death by 4 brothers John Nieslawski, Edward “Duke” Nieslawski, Walter “Fritz” Nieslawski and William “Bill” Nieslawski. 3 sisters Irene (Edmund” Swede”)Wojciechowski, Genevieve (Eugene) DiCiacca and Rosemary (Charles) Wright. 2 Sisters in Law, 2 brothers in law, 1 nephew, 3 nieces and 1 Grandson.
