Frank P. Rady 97 of La Salle. Passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020, in Illinois Veteran’s Home La Salle.
Per Frank’s request, there will be no services. Ptak Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Frank was born July 13, 1923, in La Salle to Joseph and Josephine (Ursic) Rady. He married Mary Ann Falk on August 8, 1952, in La Salle. Frank was a WWII Navy Veteran. He joined the Navy on December 7, 1940, at the age of 17 years old. Frank spent 6 years in the Navy and was discharged on May 13, 1946. Frank was on the USS Northampton CA-26 heavy cruiser and took part in task force 16 which bombed Tokyo with LTC Doolittle’s bombers, just 4 months after the Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor.
Frank’s ship was sunk at the Battle of Guadalcanal on November 30, 1942. Frank finished his sea duty on the USS Boston. He was a lifelong member of the La Salle VFW.
Frank retired from Libby Owens in Ottawa in 1985 after 33 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and sports. He was a die-hard Cub fan and got to see them win the world series in 2016.
Survivors include his daughter Deborah (Daniel) Obermiller of Leonore, IL, 2 sons Mark (Felicia) Rady of Douglasville, GA, and Tom Rady of Douglasville, GA. Grandsons Michael (Courtney) Obermiller of Tonica, IL, Brian (Jen Klimek) Obermiller of Tonica, IL, and Ryan Rady of Lakeland, FL and 1 Granddaughter Autumn Rady of Douglasville, GA., 8 Great Grandchildren and 1 sister Toni Ratliff of Santa Cruz, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann in 2015. His son Keith, 2 brothers Joseph and George Rady, and 1 sister Josephine James.
