Gary F. Wieczorek

Gary F. Wieczorek 60 of Peru. Passed away peacefully January 20, 2024, in his home.

Memorial Mass will be 10:30 AM Thursday February 1, 2024, in St Mary Church. Rev Dominic Garramone OSB will officiate. Burial will follow in St Hyacinth Cemetery.

Visitation will be in the church Thursday from 9:00-10:30 AM. Cremation rites have been accorded. Ptak Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Gary was born August 16,1963 in La Salle to Edward F. and Mary C. (Pabian) Wieczorek. Gary was a 1981 Graduate of La Salle-Peru Township High School.  It was not uncommon to see Gary on his 12-speed bike anywhere from Spring Valley to Starved Rock State Park, cruising with his buddies. Gary loved working outside and cutting trees for Stuart Tree service and he enjoyed having a beer with the guys after a hard day’s work. He lived in California for while and then moved to Wenatchee, WA., where the surrounding mountains suited him better than the sand and traffic of Southern California. Gary truly appreciated the simple things in life, Cross country train rides, sitting outside and listening to his music or birds, venturing on road trips to small towns and above all family.

Whether it was backyard BBQ’s, bonfires or sitting down to watch his Chicago Bears, Gary loved being with his family sharing deep hearty laughs while reminiscing. Of course, all of these were enjoyed with his best friend and life companion “Baby” (his little chihuahua with a big personality) Gary moved back to his hometown of Peru, IL to care for his mom. No matter what neighborhood Gary lived in, you’d find him on daily walks with Baby, sharing his big bright smile and welcoming friendly personality with everyone he met along the way. Gary had a gift of getting to know strangers (he called it his gift of gab)

Gary was a caring and compassionate person. He was the most loving, fiercely loyal Son, Brother, Uncle and Doggy Daddy anyone could have.

Gary is survived by his mother Mary of Peru. Sisters Sandy (Ken) Brown of Cherry, IL and Mary Beth Palomares of Bellflower, CA. His brothers Tim (Karen) Wieczorek of Sanford, FL and Kevin (Lily) Wieczorek of Wenatchee, WA. Several nieces and nephews and his special dog “Baby”

Gary was preceded in death by his father Edward in 2016.
