John V. Chambers 89 of Peru. Died 11:30 AM March 31, 2016 in OSF Peoria.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday 11:00 AM in St Valentine Church. Monsignor J. Brian Rejsek will officiate. Burial will be at Peru City Cemetery. The Peru Veterans Memorial Group will conduct graveside military rites.
Visitation will be Tuesday in the church from 9-11 AM. Ptak Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
John was born May 24, 1926 to John S. and Sophie (Pikul) Chambers. He married Betty Fusinatto September 13, 1947 in St Anthony’s Church in Spring Valley. John served in the Army during WWII, Serving in the European-African- Middle eastern Theatre of Operations.
John worked at Westclox and then went to work for Peru Washington and Peru Northview Public Schools as Head Custodian for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St Valentine Church and the Peru VFW.
John enjoyed his family, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and also enjoyed his years with the children at Northview School. Where he was affectionately known as “Gramps”. John also enjoyed Mushroom hunting, Fishing, Bocci Ball tournaments and gardening.
John is survived by his wife Betty of Peru. His daughter Mary (Mike) Leone of Peru. His grandchildren Kristi (Jeremy) Pabian, Douglas (Adrienne) Leone and Jason (Molly) Leone. His Great Grandchildren Connor Pabian, Elena, Adelyn, Zach and Arianna Leone. 1 sister Shirley Novitske of Bluegrass, IA.
John was preceded in death 1 daughter Linda Sarosinski, 1 Son John Michael at birth. 1 Sister Betty Jane Flohr and 2 brothers Harry and Donald Chambers.
