John J. Duncan Jr., 75, of La Salle passed away April 2, 2024, at home, with his wife Patricia and family by his side.
Memorial Mass will be 11:00 AM Saturday April 6, 2024, at St Mary Church Peru. The Very Rev. Gary Blake will officiate. Private Burial will be at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Ptak Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
John was born April 17, 1948, in La Salle to John J. and Josephine (Steinz) Duncan Sr. When John was 2 years of age, they moved to the family farm in Dimmick Township. He graduated from St Bede Academy and attended L-P-O Junior College. He married his loving wife Patricia Smith on May 25, 1984. John was a member of St Mary Church Peru.
After his father’s passing John took over the family farm and he retired from farming in 2009. He also worked at Motor Wheel in Mendota until its closing. He also bartended at the White Way in Peru.
John loved the family farm and his joy in the spring and summer was growing vegetables and especially sweet corn to make sure all his many friends and even strangers were able to enjoy the fresh vegetables.
John was an avid St Bede fan; Chicago Cubs fan and he loved Notre Dame. When Notre Dame was playing no one was to bother him. He also enjoyed his many trips to Las Vegas and playing cards with his special friends.
John is survived by his loving wife Patricia of La Salle. Three Sisters Jo Marie Duncan of Peru, Kathleen (Bill) Krapf of Peru and Karen (Gary) Zemann of Webster Park, Spring Valley. John’s nieces and nephews Kimberly Middleton, Kelly Krapf, Kyle Krapf, Elizabeth (Tim Cole) Zemann, Katherine (Mike Plochocki) Zemann, Colleen (Greg) Heredia, Gary Zemann, Jr. Holly (Joe) Kitchens, Ashley (Adam) Emmerling, Erin Stanford and great uncle to Colin Middleton, Hutton Krapf, Alexandria Heredia and Mariah Plochocki, Daniel, Ian and Bethany Kitchens. 2 sisters-in-laws Deborah (Mark) Inman and Sherry (Troy) Stanford and several cousins
John was preceded in death by parents and a brother in infancy.
