Raymond (Cap) Mrella, 94, of Peru passed away March 23, 2023, in his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Monday March 27, 2023, in St Valentine Church. Rev J. A. Small will officiate. Burial will be in Peru City Cemetery. The visitation will be Monday from 9:30-10:45am in the church. Ptak Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Ray was born December 28, 1928, in Peru to Stanley and Theresa (O’Brien) Mrella. He married Betty Widman July 12,1958 in St Patrick Church La Salle. Ray worked at Westclox for 36 years until they closed. He then worked at St. Vincent Cemetery, IVCH Laundry Department and GO/Dan Industries. Ray also painted for Cawley Realty and really enjoyed working as a handyman for Bob Booker. Ray was a devoted member of St Valentine Church, where he ushered for many years.
He was an avid Cubs, Bulls, Bears and Notre Dame fan. His family was his greatest joy.
Ray is survived by his daughters Alice (Richard) Tostovarsnik of La Salle, Janet (Phill) Hoppenjan of Freeport, Brenda (Russell) Shevokas of Granville and Missy (Tim) Schlosser, Son-in-Law David (Diane) Beguin of Rochelle; 10 Grandchildren Sara (Chris) Harley, Jessica (Nick) Yonto, Catie (Brian) Blaszynski, Ashley (Drew) Nesemeier, Zack (Marisely Nieves) Hoppenjan, Amy (Michael) Aho, Kyle Shevokas, Andrea Shevokas, Kye (Dani) Schlosser and Kenzie Schlosser; 11 Great Grandchildren Elijah Harley, Brayden Harley, Max Harley, Claire Yonto, Andrew Yonto, Cole Yonto, James Nesemeier, Jace Nesemeier, Grayson Aho, Violet Aho and Hudson Aho. Sister-in-Law Kathy (Gerald) Lenkaitis.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Betty, daughter Marian Beguin, grandchildren Lucas Smith, Jacob John Shevokas, brothers John Mrella, Stanlin Mrella and Joseph Mrella, sisters Frances Sorrentino, Marie Zaveski, Elaine Lesch, Evelyn Mrella, Theresa (Everett) Engelhaupt and nephews Buck Engelhaupt and Gerald Lesch.
